YouGov Review - 2

Many times, I came across advertisement placing in Facebook by YouGov that asks who want to earn extra cash?

This interest me greatly as I am keen to find out how much one can really earn by filling online surveys “selling” our opinion and our time.

Can we earn that extra cash from home by filling up the online surveys as and when we like?

Can we earn enough not to drag ourselves to work every day and escape from the Rat Race?

YouGov Review – Companies spend Billions per year on market research!

In the world, there are millions of companies that would spend money to do market research in any topics you can think of.

If the company wants to sell something, she might need market research on consumer behavior of a certain product first before deciding to build it and sell it.

If the company wants to find out how motivated are the employees working in the company, she might need a company survey research on employee motivations.

The truth is, Opinion Matters!

This is why there are also many companies that specialize in creating surveys for targeted market research purpose. YouGov is one of them.

YouGov is an international online market research agency that is based in the UK.

I will share with you how YouGov works and I assume all online surveys companies work similarly in a way or another.

It is really Free and Fuss Free to become a YouGov member. You just need to key in your email address and your preferred password.

YouGov Review - 3

You will immediately be invited to fill in a first Welcome Survey about yourself. The purpose is for the YouGov to know what kind of survey you are suitable for. As I mentioned earlier that market research is sometimes quite targeted at a specific group of people only.

Once you complete your first Welcome Survey, you will be rewarded 100 points. (I took about 5 minutes to complete)

One day later, you will receive second Welcome Survey about a health topic. At the end of the survey, they will ask you how you felt about the survey, whether is it boring or interesting. And how often do you want to receive invitations for surveys?

Once you complete your second Welcome survey, you will be rewarded 50 points. (I took about 3 minutes to complete)

YouGov Review - 4

Once you accumulate 5000 points by filling future surveys, you can redeem SGD25 if you are in Singapore. (Depending on the country you are residing, the payment amount may be different. Not all Surveys reward point, some surveys allow you to participate in lucky draws.)

YouGov Review – Time Vs Money

For every 5000 points, I accumulated, I can redeem SGD25. Which means that for every 100 points, it is worth SGD0.50.

Using my first Welcome Survey as a benchmark, 5 minutes for 100 points, and each minute of my time is worth SGD0.10. This adds up to SGD6/hr.

If I can fill in surveys every minute for 8 hours per day, I can earn SGD48/day. If I work on Sat and Sun, so average I can earn SGD1440/mth.

Not quite enough for a comfortable life in Singapore, I guess. Still quite a shortfall to escape the Rat Race.

The harder truth is that you are not going to get to fill surveys for 8 hours a day! Especially if you just sign up with one survey company! YouGov is not going to send you tons of survey every day simply because not all surveys are targeted to your profile.

BUT, there are people who can do Survey for a living, though, their tactic is to sign up with as many survey companies as they can. Such that they can receive as many surveys as possible from all the different companies.

YouGov Review – Final Verdict

YouGov
Owners:
YouGov
Overall Rating:

I rated this product 3 stars because it is true that you can some earn extra cash online by filling up surveys from YouGov.

YouGov is legitimate and they do pay up when you redeem your points.

But to be financially free just by filling surveys from YouGov is not possible looking at the time invested and rewards ratio.

However, to earn a living by filling up surveys is still possible as there are real life people doing this successfully. You can seek the expert’s, Gary Mitchell, advice on how he did it.

Wishing you the best!

I’ve participated on Yougov survey and earn 5000 points to redeem through my bank account. However when I checked online there were nothing indicted. Kindly advice as my 6 days claim expiring very soon.
    Thank you

      Hi, Chan.

I have received 2 payments from YouGov to my PayPal account. They took about 2 weeks to process each time I submit a redemption of rewards though.

I would recommend you to contact YouGov Support if you have not received your reward more than 2 weeks after you submit your redemption.

      Hope this helps.

    Hi Edmund,

YouGov (SG) payments via PayPal request for input of full name & postal address, supposedly to ensure that payments can be delivered. For other types of points redemption, one apparently also needs to provide other details like phone no., bank account no. etc.

Where low-value (S$25) PayPal payments are concerned, I wonder if such details are necessary, since we aren’t exactly expecting delivery of goods to a physical address. Moreover, submitting all those details online to a 3rd-party poses security risks, eg. what if the YouGov portal were to get hacked?

Since one only needs a confirmed primary or secondary email address to receive payments via PayPal, do you know if it is possible to successfully receive payments if only the email address is supplied for YouGov points redemption via PayPal?

    Thanks !

      Hi, CuriousHat.

I guess filling up the detail at YouGov is necessary for them to verify you are not a bot but actually a human filling up their surveys. Furthermore, perhaps some surveys only target people from certain locations thus they could filter out the right survey panels to send their surveys.

Perhaps, you could try not filling in your bank details (if it is an optional field) since you want to receive your payment by PayPal. Personally, I don’t recall I provided YouGov with my bank details.

In Singapore, we are protected by the Personal Data Protection Commission. If you are not comfortable for YouGov to use your personal data, please do not give them the consent.

Hope this helps and Wishing you the best!
